Migrating to XA R7

The unique architecture of XA allows you to upgrade to new technology at your own pace, implementing the components you need when you are ready to implement them. So every Release 7 migration is unique for each client; it depends on what is installed, and what is to be deployed at R7.

The key area of difference between prior releases and R7 is the deployment of the Java Architecture, which replaces the Smalltalk clients as well as server code. This deployment requires OS/400 Java pre-reqs, plus installation of the new Link Manager tool which is used to manage the Java Server applications. These new components require knowledge not previously used in the XA environment, and you need to know or have access to education on:

  • TCP configuration
  • IFS Structure
  • Netserver
  • Websphere (if applicable)
  • iSeries Navigator

With ongoing performance tuning by Infor, Release 7 should perform at the same level as Release 6. However, Infor recommends and provides help with performance planning to ensure you identify required upgrades with user PC’s, communications infrastructure, and iSeries resources.

CISTECH has helped numerous clients upgrade to R7, and have identified a list of key elements that must be executed. We have prepared a planning template to help you prepare for your implementation, you can download it by clicking here (download R7 Upgrade Plan Template).
